The Yaegl Cultural Garden at Yamba Museum has been awarded the 2020 winning prize from Museums and Galleries of NSW for Innovation and Resilience (in the category of volunteers and up to 2 paid staff).
The Garden was created in close collaboration with the local Indigenous community, Yaegl artists and gardeners over six months.
It has transformed the entrance to the Museum into a grand display of motifs highly significant for Yaegl stories and culture.
Incorporating a mosaic featuring two totems (dolphin and dingo), six Language Poles, and three Yarning Circles, the garden sets the tone and focus for Yaegl story telling.
