The premium multi-day walking experiences are crafted to immerse you in nature’s rhythm—along wild, untouched coastlines, through ancient coastal forests, and across tranquil estuaries. Whether you’re watching whales from a headland or soaking in the serenity of a deserted beach, this is more than just a hike – it’s a deeply personal, restorative adventure.

Explore the Yuraygir Coastal Walk – 5 Days / 4 Nights

This 65km, Grade 4 (moderate) adventure follows the stunning Yuraygir Coastal Walk—one of the longest and most remote coastal hikes in New South Wales. Starting at the surf mecca of Angourie, just south of Yamba, the trail winds its way south through Yuraygir National Park, revealing pristine beaches, dramatic headlands, and peaceful bushland teeming with native wildlife.

This stunning stretch of Clarence Valley’s coastline showcases:

🌿 Unspoiled beaches, headlands, estuaries, and rivers
🌿 Diverse ecosystems—from littoral rainforest to wetlands and eucalypt woodlands
🌿 Unique native wildlife, including dolphins and endangered coastal species
🌿 Solitude and serenity on NSW’s most secluded coastal trail
🌿 Iconic starting point at Angourie, just minutes from Yamba

Whether you’re an experienced trekker or an adventurous soul craving nature, Connect Adventures invites you to walk where few have wandered—through the heart of Yuraygir National Park and along the breathtaking coastline of the Clarence Valley.

Three scenic river crossings by boat add to the sense of adventure and isolation. During whale migration seasons (May–June and Sept–Oct), enjoy incredible whale-watching opportunities with provided binoculars and extended time at key vantage points.

Diaries at the ready

You’ll want to add this to your to-do list!

Day 1

13 km | Angourie to Lake Arragan
Meals: morning coffee, lunch and dinner

We pick you up from Yamba or Angourie at 8:00 am.  After a coffee / tea stop we transport you to Angourie Point via the Blue Pools. We check our gear and start our journey at the world-famous Angourie Surfing reserve, walking around the point onto Back Beach, the first of the Yuraygir beaches. The first 2 km sets the scene for our 5-day hike with some beach and track walking. We’ll stop at Shelley Headland Campground for some morning tea and a breather.

Our journey continues down the coast past Plumbago Headland. We’ll have magnificent views inland of the conical-shaped Clarence Peak and the beautiful waters of Lake Arragan. This is our first night’s camp, grassy tent sites and an almost guaranteed Kangaroo or two to keep us company before we have a delicious dinner beside the campfire if it’s cool.

Day 2

13km | Lake Arragan to Sandon River (north)
Meals: breakfast, lunch and dinner

Today is our first morning waking with the sound of the ocean in our ears. After packing down and breakfast, we head off and tide dependent we’ll head straight out onto the beach, not long into the walk we can see Brooms Heads 5 km down the coast, a perfect spot to stop for a coffee or cold drink and some morning tea.

Brooms Head rock platform and the headland are a great place to explore and experience the diverse coastal ecosystem, with tidal pools holding fish and shells.

The remainder of today’s walk is along the beach; we have plenty of time to enjoy the walk, keep an eye out for the bottlenose dolphin, seabirds and whales during migrating season. The Sandon campsite is on the outlet of the Sandon River, where you can rest or explore before another delicious dinner.

Day 3

11km | Sandon River to Illaroo Campground
Meals: breakfast, lunch and dinner

After breakfast, we head off to the river’s edge to get ferried across the Sandon River. We walk through the small fishing hamlet of Sandon. Our walk today is along the beach, with an inland option if high tides or strong weather merit the alternate option. We have the flexibility to start a little later or walk part of the beach only.

We are now walking adjacent to the Solitary Island Marine Park, which we follow for the remainder of our walk.

Day 4

21.5km + 3km (on the boat trip to get across the river) | Illaroo to Station Creek – Pack-Free

20.5km + 3km (on the boat trip to get across the river) | Illaroo to Pebbly Beach – Full-Pack
Meals: breakfast, lunch and dinner

This is our longest day walking with varied terrain of headlands, rock platforms and beach as we pass the town of Minnie Waters and the village of Diggers Camp, the Boorkoom Headland before dropping onto the beach which takes us to Wooli.

At Wooli, we head inland, into town and the boat jetty where we’ll take a short boat trip down the Wooli River towards the river mouth. We land on the southern side of the river and head inland before heading onto some more rock platforms.

Our day’s walk finishes off with a stretch of beach walking, taking us to the beachside camp at Pebbly Beach (Day pack walkers will walk another 1 km inland to Station Creek Campground). The beautiful cove at Pebbly Beach is the perfect spot to spend our last night on the Yuraygir Coastal Walk, and for the pack-free tours, we will spend the night amongst the scribbly gum and corkwood trees on the creek, a beautiful spot for a swim. This is our last night on the Yuraygir Coastal Walk.

Day 5

7.8km Station Creek to Red Rock – Pack-Free

9km Pebbly Beach to Red Rock – Full-Pack

Meals: breakfast and lunch

From Station Creek, we stroll around the Corkwood and Scribbly Gum walking track without our packs.  Then we have a stretch of beautiful coastline that takes us to Corindi River, with Red Rock Headland in the distance. We take another small boat ride across the river and celebrate the completion of our walk when we hit dry land again.

We’ll spend some time exploring Red Rock Headland before departing and with a surprise lunch stop on the way back to Yamba at an iconic Clarence Valley location, arriving back in Yamba by mid-afternoon.

Kate and Jason will look after you.
