Jacaranda time! There’s so much more to see !

Here’s how to spend 3 glorious days in our big backyard

Day 1 - Grafton

Welcome! Grafton’s Jacaranda Season is an enchanting experience we think is worth taking your time to enjoy.

Spend the morning wandering through the purple wonderland of 1700 Jacaranda trees in full bloom.
See Park and Turf Street are the best spots to view the trees.

For lunch, try the Jacaranda-inspired food on offer in Prince Street - purple pies, purple cakes and purple ice cream.

Grafton Post Office

After lunch visit the Grafton Regional Gallery and Grafton’s museum, Schaeffer House, for some culture and history of the region. Finish your purple day with dinner at the Crown Hotel, overlooking the mighty Clarence River.

Day 2 Grafton – Lawrence – Maclean - Yamba

From Grafton, follow the Cattle and Cane drive through our beautiful Australian countryside to Lawrence (20 minutes).

Look out for the egret bird colony in the wetland just before driving onto the free car ferry that will take you across the river.

Continue on (15 minutes) through sugarcane country to Maclean – the Scottish town of Australia – the prefect spot for lunch. While you’re here, visit Maclean lookout for spectacular views of the region. Then follow the river downstream to Yamba (20 minutes).

Yamba Marina

Yamba is famous for white sandy beaches, surfing, cafes, boutique shopping and a boat harbour.

Top tips include Yamba prawns and oysters, Yamba lighthouse, the 1km long breakwater at the mouth of the Clarence River, the Pacific Hotel - a great spot for whale watching, and a sunset kayak tour.

To see kangaroos, head to the Yamba Golf and Country Club. For dinner, take your pick of Yamba’s award-winning restaurants and enjoy a night out in Yamba.

Day 3 Yamba – Iluka – Angourie

After breakfast at one of Yamba’s vibrant cafés, take a round trip on the ferry across the river to Yamba’s twin town, Iluka, at the mouth of the Clarence River. Look out for dolphins swimming in the river.

Iluka

Once you’re back in Yamba, drive to Angourie (5 minutes) to see the famous freshwater Blue and Green Pools. Take your pick of Angourie’s two cafes for lunch, followed by a swim at Spooky Beach.
